Our 35th Annual Quilt Auction exceeded all our expectations and then some! The lovely weather graced us with crisp fall air, picturesque trees, and smiles all around. It truly marked the most exciting time of the year for our community. The gym was adorned with stunning quilts, our residents dressed in their finest attire and our staff worked hard to prepare delicious food to serve as guests arrived for the spectacular weekend.
Our Friday evening kicked off with a fabulous dinner, followed by a touching program and craft auction. Jerry, with his warm welcome and a beautiful prayer, set the tone for the evening. Our residents, who had been practicing for months, graced us with a moving performance. Ayla, at just 11 years old, sang her first solo, leaving everyone in awe. Levi, a member of our community for 16 years, tugged at our heartstrings with a song he wrote and played on his guitar. George led us in singing “This Little Light of Mine”. We were also fortunate to welcome back some former residents who grew up at the home in the 1990’s. They sang songs reminiscent of their days with the Galilean Home Children’s Choir. Jerry and all of us were deeply touched by hearing them sing the songs they used to sing and also the stories which reminded us of the love and care Jerry and Sandy have showered on so many.
The generosity of over 30 local businesses and craftsmen was truly heartwarming. Their donations included a handmade knife and case, large outdoor grills, and a beautifully crafted wooden bowl, created quite a buzz, even sparking a friendly bidding war!
Saturday morning started on a delicious note with a pancake and sausage breakfast at 8:00 am. By 9:00 am, excited visitors were tempted by the irresistible spread of baked goods displayed on numerous tables. Some of our employees showed off their baking magic with an array of goodies and others created the cutest gift baskets to be auctioned. For lunch, Joey’s Food Truck served mouthwatering smoked ribs, chicken leg quarters, pulled pork sandwiches, and the best chili in town. The pumpkin lattes with all the fixin’s were available all day and a favorite among everyone.
Of course, the stars of the show were the items made by our residents and the quilts! Medina auctioned her handmade rug which was woven from her own loom, and it went for over $1,000. Every quilt, whether vintage or modern, hand-sewn or machine-stitched, tablecloth or baby blanket, was a one-of-a-kind work of art. The highest bid of the day went to the stunning Lone Star Quilt. We are profoundly grateful for every dollar raised. Your donations have made a significant impact on the lives of many, although we may never fully comprehend the extent. God knows, and in His eyes, your kindness shines brightly.
To those who couldn’t join us this year, we missed you dearly! Please, make a note in your calendars for next year’s event on October 11th and 12th. We look forward to welcoming you back with open arms, warm hearts, and more beautiful quilts.
